Call for Papers: Towards a Zero Carbon Society

Seminar organised by Ceratonia Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, University of Malta

Ceratonia Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, University of Malta, is inviting social scientists to participate in this half day seminar which will take place on Saturday 29 October, 9am-1pm at the Faculty of Arts Library, University of Malta. 

We invite papers and/or presentations from all social sciences and interdisciplinary networks. 

We encourage submissions on a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to the following:


- Consumerism, Citizenship and Identities

- Clean Technology

- Ecological Modernization

- Sustainable Development

- Ecological citizenship

- Environmentalism and zero-carbon societies

- Circular Economy
- Environment and social policy

- Energy strategies, pathways and policies
- Sustainable transport policy

- Social perceptions of the green economy
- Energy and social inequality
- Theoretical approaches to zero-carbon society research
- Civil society, democracy and the zero-carbon transition
- Spatial and geo-political dimensions of zero-carbon transitions
- Zero-carbon communities
- Economics of zero-carbon societies
- Methological approaches towards zero-carbon society research
- Small islands and zero-carbon transitions
- Zero-carbon society in an EU context

To submit an abstract (150-300 words), please send in word document, including 5 keywords and academic affiliation to:

Abstracts will be peer-reviewed by an academic panel, and selected papers/presentations can be presented during the seminar.  The seminar will also include a round-table debate. A peer-reviewed publication may be published following the seminar.
